Our Story: Bringing Creative Fun to the UK
Paint & Barrel was born from a moment of inspiration during Jo Downing’s visit to Australia, where she experienced the magic of a pop-up painting event. Watching people of all skill levels come together, paintbrush in hand, and leave with a sense of pride and joy sparked an idea. She knew this was something the UK would love.
Determined to bring that same energy and creativity home, Jo launched Paint & Barrel in 2020. Since then, we’ve been on a mission to make art accessible, fun, and social—proving that anyone, regardless of experience, can create something they’re proud of. From lively group sessions to intimate celebrations, our events offer a relaxed space to unwind, explore creativity, and connect with others.

Paint & Barrel offers a vibrant night out for individuals of all ages to socialise, connect, and enjoy a creative experience, with absolutely no previous Art Experience needed !
Founded by Jo Downing after a visit to her son in Brisbane, Australia, the idea was inspired by the popular pop-up painting events prevalent in Australian culture.
During her first experience with a paintbrush at one of these events, Jo was initially apprehensive. However, she not only had a fantastic night but also left with a newfound sense of accomplishment and the realisation that she possessed a latent creative talent. Fuelled by this passion, Jo brought the concept back to the UK and established Paint & Barrel in 2020.
